Retiring Palatine High School choir director oversees last concert Friday

An overflow crowd will fill Palatine High School's auditorium Friday night to see retiring choir director Steve Sivak's final performance.

The Senior Recognition Choir Concert, beginning at 7:30 p.m., will be the last overseen by the popular and accomplished Sivak, who during his years at Palatine High led students to three performances at the White House, including last Christmas.

"It's exciting," Sivak said last December of his most recent visit to the executive mansion. "It makes it so worthwhile. I've had a great career and a lot of great experiences."

Sivak taught in Des Plaines School District 62 before moving to Palatine High 15 years ago.

He said he had time during his years as an elementary school teacher to pursue other professional musical endeavors, and he hopes to return to them in his retirement.
