Schaumburg A.M. Rotary welcomes new member

Schaumburg A.M. Rotary Club President Brian Bieschke inducted Andy DuRoss, superintendent of Schaumburg School District 54, as its newest member during the club's March 30 meeting.

Schaumburg A.M. Rotarian and Golden Corridor Family YMCA President a and CEO Dr. Gary Bublitz sponsored DuRoss for membership.

District 54 operates 21 elementary schools and five junior high schools, in addition to an early childhood learning center and one K-8 grade school, serving more than 14,000 students during the 2015/16 school year.

The District 54 Early Learning Center was recently recognized as one of three early childhood programs in the state of Illinois to receive the Award of Excellence for the Inclusion of Children with Special Needs. The Early Learning Center serves more than 700 at-risk and special needs children in 25 classrooms.

Rotarians are volunteers who work locally and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training and promote literacy, peace and understanding under the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self." Rotary International, founded in 1905, in Chicago, and headquartered in Evanston, consists of more than 35,000 clubs and 1.2 million volunteer members worldwide.

Schaumburg A.M. Rotary, a multigenerational group of men and women, representing a cross section of the local business and professional community, meets weekly from 7-8:30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings, at the Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club, in Hoffman Estates.
