The Holmstad to host senior health, fitness fair May 25

The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway in Batavia, will celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day with its annual health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 25.

This year's theme is "Improve Your Health for a Better Self." According to National Senior Health & Fitness Day organizers, the goal of the day-long celebration is to increase awareness of the benefits of a regular exercise program for older adults.

Exhibitors will include organizations, businesses, and individuals who serve and focus on health and wellness opportunities for seniors. There will be free health screenings and hand and chair massages, free food samples, and raffles and giveaways.

There will be healthy cooking demonstrations every half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Join The Holmstad's Executive Chef Warren and Sous Chef Lonnie in The Gathering Place. The duo will demonstrate how to prepare a Wheatberry Waldorf salad, Asian chicken lettuce wrap, artichoke and zucchini paella and Ambrosia parfait. Samples will be served.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Phil Branshaw from 1 to 2 p.m. Branshaw will discuss new outreach and programming offered at Delnor Northwestern Hospital, including the congestive heart failure program. He'll also share suggestions for transitioning from the hospital to the home or a skilled nursing facility.

All events are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring personal hygiene items to donate to the Wayside Cross Ministries in Aurora.
