DOWNERS GROVE — The Carrington College board of trustees has appointed Donna M. Loraine, Ph.D., president of Carrington College.

Loraine was previously chief academic officer and provost of DeVry University, for which she drove the academic vision and provided leadership to 400 full-time professors and 2,800 visiting professors. She succeeds Jeffrey Akens, who is retiring from DeVry Education Group.

Donna Rekau, Ph.D., currently assistant provost, will serve as interim vice president of academic affairs for DeVry University.

As president, Loraine will oversee academic policies, processes and operational execution of Carrington's growth strategy to ensure more students have access to accredited health care training and education.

“Dr. Loraine has a proven record of designing and developing quality academic programs that meet student needs,” said Daniel Hamburger, president and CEO of DeVry Education Group. “She is a decisive, execution-oriented leader, who I am confident will apply her proven strengths to elevate and execute our academic offerings.”

As provost and vice president of academic affairs for DeVry University, Loraine was responsible for accreditation and academic licensing of all programs, and setting and providing faculty training and support for academic policy and processes. Her milestone accomplishments include successfully leading DeVry University in its reorganization to colleges of study, championing its movement to the Higher Learning Commission's Academic Quality Improvement (AQIP) pathway, and engaging with faculty to author The Professor's Guide to Excellence, a seminal publication on faculty career development.

Loraine's 25-year history with DeVry University includes roles as dean of its Keller Graduate School of Management and vice president of east region operations. She began her career with the organization as an assistant professor and adjunct instructor at the university's Irving, Texas, campus.

She was honored by first lady Michelle Obama at the White House ceremony for veteran women in recognition of her military service. She served in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years, holding both enlisted and officer rank. She was also responsible for providing support for European aircraft defense and NATO exercises to test program effectiveness. She holds a doctorate and master's degree in public administration from the University of Colorado and a master's in management from Troy State University. Dr. Loraine is a member of the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration and a charter member of Women in Military Service for America.
