Day care opening in vacant Des Plaines building

The Des Plaines city council has approved plans for a day care to open in a vacant, 2,400-square-foot commercial building at 275 Thacker St.

Sunny Day Care, operated by Sylwia Wzorek and her mother, Krystyna Wzorek, will include four classrooms and an outdoor playground/play area. First, the building will undergo renovations.

The one-story building has been vacant for the last four years. It previously housed R & J Upholstery, a video store and a convenience store. Owner Darryl Schellin, whose family once operated Schellin's Bakery at Lee Street and Algonquin Road, is selling the building to the Wzoreks.
