Libertyville High School Math Team Wins State Competition

On Saturday, May 7, the Libertyville High School Mathematics Team competed in the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Math Finals at the University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign. The team brought home the State Championship trophy for the third time in four years. The Math Team is coached by Rick Brenner, Tami Rende, Lisa Davis and Christee Joesten. The results for the LHS team members were are follows:

TEAM EVENTS:

Freshmen Algebra I Team: Bert Cao, Jeff Chung, Charlie Stahnke, Hannah Grauer, Brian Hong, Albert Guan, and Alex Ji - 7th Place

Sophomore Geometry Team: Aaron Chen, Katie Lund, Suraj Rajendran, Tyler Wang, Lewis Wang, and Kelly Xu- 6th Place

Junior Algebra II Team: Ryan Bonate, Ryan Bogan, Lewis Cherry, Rob Ervine, Karl Gaertner, and Anne Hong - 2nd Place

Senior Pre-Calculus Team: Jason Ji, Hannah Loizzo, Hannah Manetsch, Elliot Stahnke, Ken Wu, and Daniel Zou - 2nd Place

Frosh/Soph Eight-Person Team: Andy Liu, Charlie Stahnke, Jeff Chung, Albert Guan, Suraj Rajendran, Aaron Chen (Team Captain), Tara D'Souza, and Ben John - 4th Place

Junior/Senior Eight-Person Team: Karl Gaertner, Ryan Bogan, Anne Hong, Rob Ervine, Jason Ji, Daniel Zou (Team Captain), David Stone, and Ken Wu - 6th Place

Calculator Team: Bert Cao, Lewis Wang, Maxwell Flanagan, Elliot Stahnke, Hannah Loizzo - 1st Place

The Frosh/Soph Relay Team II: Albert Guan, Jeff Chung, Ben John, and Tara D'Souza - 7th Place

Frosh/Soph Relay Team I: Matthew Neuberger, Charlie Stahnke, Kelly Xu, and Aaron Chen - 1st Place

Junior/Senior Relay Team II: Rob Ervine, Karl Gaertner, Andy Zhang, and Hannah Loizzo - 5th Place

Junior/Senior Relay Team I: Anne Hong, Ryan Bogan, Jason Ji, and Ken Wu - 2nd Place

TWO-PERSON COMPETITION:

Frosh/Soph: Bert Cao and Andy Liu - 1st Place

Junior/Senior: Elliot Stahnke and Daniel Zou - 1st Place

Oralists: Maxwell Flanagan and Suraj Rajendran - 2nd Place with their discussion on Isometries on the Plane

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS:

Freshmen Individual Algebra I Written: Bert Cao - 7th Place

Sophomore Individual Geometry Written: Aaron Chen - 7th Place

Junior Individual Algebra II Written: Ryan Bogan - 5th Place

Senior Individual Pre-Calculus Written: Elliot Stahnke - STATE CHAMPION
