Foundation's 'Night For Our Stars' generates support for Dist. 207

"A Night For Our Stars," the eighth annual Maine Township District 207 Educational Foundation benefit dinner, held April 21 at Café La Cave, in Des Plaines, celebrated both the students and teachers who took part in foundation grants as well as the generous donors who make those grants possible.

Local businesses such as Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, restaurants in Uptown Park Ridge, Norridge, and Des Plaines, and district vendors provided support through program advertisements and silent auction items.

One hundred and twenty District 207 administrators and faculty, school board members, retired teachers, and supportive parents and community members gathered to honor this year's grant recipients and raise money for next year's grants. A total of $15,000 was raised, which means the foundation will be able to continue its work of supporting innovative teaching and learning.

Entertainment was provided by Maine West's Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Bernie Gerstmayr.

Those who attended the benefit also were able to learn more about the impact of the School Based Health Center, located at Maine East, on the lives of students and their families. Maine East principal Dr. Mike Pressler introduced the center's social worker and a student who told their dramatic stories. An on-the-spot fundraiser was held to provide funds for school health checkups and other plans the SBHC has to help teenagers get and stay healthy.

The Maine Township High School District 207 Educational Foundation is a nonprofit, taxexempt organization that operates independently of the District 207 Board of Education. A volunteer board of trustees made up of business, education and community leaders governs the foundation. Established in the spring of 1993, the foundation has the following mission: To acquire and distribute resources to the students and staff of District 207 for the purpose of providing extended learning opportunities.
