Historical figures come to life during Palatine cemetery walk

The history of the men and women who lived through the founding of Palatine in 1866 were brought to life Sunday during the Sesquicentennial Cemetery Walk at Palatine Township's Hillside Cemetery.

The Palatine Historical Society introduced historical figures during the walk, including Palatine's first mayor, Myron Lytle, a Civil War veteran and an early settler. Other actors dressed in period costumes explained what life was like in the village during in the 1800s.

"Palatine turned 150 years this year so we are honoring that by having people that were around in 1866," said Joe Petykowski, president of the historical society. "We have some families that are still here."

Proceeds from the event will help restore grave markers at Palatine Township cemeteries.
