NWSBA Foundation Awards $5,000 Scholarship

The Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation awarded a law school scholarship in the amount of $5,000 at the annual Judges' Night on May 5, 2016.

Erin Johnson, a student at the University of Illinois College of Law, received the 2016 Honorable Timothy C. Evans Scholarship, an award that is presented annually. Johnson, who was unable to attend due to final exams, invited her parents to accept the award on her behalf.

"I am grateful to have been chosen as the recipient of the Honorable Timothy C. Evans Scholarship. I intend to honor the purpose of the scholarship and use my legal degree to help change education policy and act as an advocate for Chicago children. I would like to thank the Northwest Suburban Bar Association Foundation for this honor and support toward my legal education," said Johnson.

The Timothy C. Evan's scholarship was established to honor the commitment and dedication of Chief Judge Evans to the Northwest Suburban Bar Association (NWSBA) and Cook County. His commitment to public service and his passionate pursuit of legal excellence and integrity mirror the virtues embodied by the NWSBA and its members.

Judge Evans was very impressed with the volunteer service of this year's recipient of his namesake scholarship.

"This year's award recipient, Erin, is very deserving of this honor, and I'm sure, will make the NWSBA proud," said Judge Evans, Chief Judge, Circuit Court of Cook County. "I am very grateful that the NWSBA named a scholarship after me; I have always looked to the NWSBA as being at the nation's vanguard in community outreach."

"Factors considered in choosing a recipient include academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular activities and financial need, said Stephen Daday, president of the NWSBA Foundation, which funds and awards the scholarship. "We are very proud of the fact that we are able to contribute to the education of a rising attorney again this year. It is very fulfilling to witness the success of our fundraising efforts."
