Brownies to bring books to Gail Borden's new branch Monday

On Monday, May 16, South Elgin Brownies from Troop 1448 will get a sneak peek at the new Gail Borden Public Library South Elgin Branch as they continue their support.

At 3:30 p.m., Brownie Troop 1448 will bring collected books to the new branch at 127 S. McLean Blvd. These donated books will be sold through the Gail Borden Public Library Foundation's ongoing book sale and proceeds will go to buy books for the new branch that is anticipated to open this summer.

"The girls chose supporting the branch as their project," said Brenda Pisauro-Brown, troop leader. "They are very excited about a library opening so close to their homes."

After they decided they wanted to work on a project in support of the new branch, the Brownies wrote a letter to the library board president Jean Bednar. Ana Devine, the library's director of branch services, attended their next meeting, showing the girls the construction drawings.

Support for this branch is not new for these Brownies. According to Pisauro-Brown, the girls love to read and they entered last year's "Read to the Rhythm" summer reading program to take part in the foundation's special "Book for a Book" challenge where the foundation donated funds for books based on the number of South Elgin children who finished the summer reading program.

The Brownies were part of a huge contingent that met and exceeded the challenge, resulting in a $25,000 foundation donation for books for the new South Elgin branch.
