Softball: Ahlers HR lifts Burlington Central

Kristina Ahlers cracked a 3-run walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning Froday to lift the Burlington Central softball team to a 10-8 win over Hinsdale South in the first round of the IC Catholic tournament in Elmhurst.

The Rockets' top four hitters - Emily Kisch, Kelly Wiater, Ahlers and Gretchen Schrubbe - each had 3 hits in the win with Kisch and Schrubbe (5 RBI) hitting home runs and Wiater a double. Sarah Kinney added 2 hits with a double. Lindsey Jamrozek added 2 hits with a home run.

Danielle Yurgil picked up her first varsity win for BC (20-6), pitching 2 innings in relief and allowing 1 hit.

Sterling 12, ACC 2: Also at the IC tournament, Paige Miller had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Jessica Eallonardo added a double for Aurora Central (12-13).

Oswego East 12, West Aurora 7: The Blackhawks (25-2) saw their 16-game winning streak come to an end in this nonconference loss. Corey McCreedy hit a home run for West Aurora and had 3 RBI, while Libby Zoppia added 2 hits and 2 RBI. Hannah Beatus suffered the loss in the circle in relief.

St. Charles North 10, Streamwood 0: Maddie Webb threw a 1-hitter to lead the North Stars (18-4, 13-3) to an Upstate Eight River win. Webb also had a double while Amanda James homered for SCN. Sam Hausl and Jordyn Wolfe added 2 hits each. Rebecca Daley had a double for Streamwood.

Batavia 20, Larkin 10: Olivia Bumbar had 3 hits with a home run and 5 RBI and Rachael Lovestrand drove in 3 runs to lead Batavia (17-11, 10-5) to this UEC River win. Brieann Cruz (2B, 3 RBI), winning pitcher Alyssa Klemm (2 hits and Jena Bendoraoitis (2B, RBI) also contributed for the Bulldogs. Sam Wahl (2B), Jocelyn Jimenez (2 doubles, 2 RBI), Haley Bohne (2 doubles, 3 RBI), Alexa Urbanik (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Jenny Beltran (2B) and Karissa Williams (2B, RBI) led Larkin.

Westminster Christian 4, Willows Academy 3: Sophia Hopkins had a double and Becca Fugiel struck out 10 Willows hitters to lead the Warriors (8-12) to a nonconference win.

Kaneland 9, Somonauk 2: In a nonconference game, winning pitcher Aly Jesniowski had 2 hits with a triple and 3 RBI, Lexi Abruzzo had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Meg Cohrs had a double and 2 RBI to lead the Knights (16-13) to the win.

St. Edward 6, Timothy Christian 1: At the Fenton tournament, Emily Stapay threw a 3-hitter with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks and Devyn Ernst had 3 hits with a double to lead the Green Wave (19-8) to the win. Jessy Kramp added 2 hits with a triple and 2 RBI, Allison Stratman had 2 hits and an RBI and Rachel Lesh added 2 doubles for St. Edward.

Hampshire 7, Grayslake North 2: In a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game, Melissa Esparaza had 2 hits with a home run and 3 RBI and Joslyn Nelson scattered 6 hits to lead the Whip-Purs (14-15, 5-4) to the win. Also contributing for Hampshire were Elli Lapi (2 hits), Payton DeChant (2 hits), Sarah Bowen (2 hits, RBI) and Jasmine Lopez (2B, RBI).
