Suspect arrested in Aurora shooting

An Aurora man has been charged in connection with a shooting on the city's west side on Wednesday.

Gabriel Guerrero Jr., 22, of the 800 block of Gates Street, faces charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held in the Kane County Correctional Center on $100,000 bail.

Police said at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday Guerrero and two unidentified 22-year-old men went to a home on the 500 block of South Elmwood Drive to confront two people.

When one of the people saw the trio, she called her 46-year-old father for help. Guerrero fired at him when he showed up in his vehicle, police said.

Police said Guerrero and the two 22-year-olds ran back to their SUV and were pursued by the 46-year-old man. The chase ended on Aurora's near southeast side when Guerrero shot and disabled the man's car. The man was not injured.

The trio then went to an Aurora hospital where one of the 22-year-old unidentified men was treated for injuries. Police say he may have left the hospital.

Police were waiting at Guerrero's home at 5:15 p.m. and took the three men into custody without incident.

One of the 22-year-old men was released without charges.

The investigation is continuing and police have not ruled out further charges.
