Auditions open for 'West Side Story' in Schaumburg

Schaumburg Summer Theatre will hold auditions for lead roles, supporting parts, chorus and dancers to be cast in "West Side Story."

Auditions, by appointment, will take place 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, and Wednesday, May 25, at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, in Schaumburg.

High school and college students (including graduate students 25 and younger) are eligible to audition.

All persons auditioning must prepare a short vocal selection of their choice, not to exceed 32 bars (approximately 60 seconds). A piano accompanist will be provided at the auditions. Cold script readings will be required for those auditioning for a speaking role.

Dance auditions will be from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25. A dance audition is required for anyone wishing to be cast as a Jet, Shark, Anita, or featured dancer in the song "America."

A $75 registration fee to participate in the program is due when rehearsals begin.

Public performances of "West Side Story" will be at the Prairie Center at 7:30 p.m. July 29, 30 and Aug. 5 and 6.
