Open auditions for 'A Chorus Line' set for May 16-18

Elgin Summer Theatre will present "A Chorus Line" which will run at the Hemmens Cultural Center July 15-17, 22-24. Get a glimpse backstage as 17 performers compete for eight coveted spots in the chorus of a Broadway musical. It introduces you to the grueling audition process where dancers are not just asked to show what they can do, but show who they are.

During the audition, these Broadway gypsies bare their souls while sharing stories of their dreams, ambitions, fears, and experiences in show business. This Pulitzer-Prize winning musical is for anyone who has ever put it all on the line, whether for a career or for love.

The Elgin production is directed by Charlie Brieger and choreographed by Heather Goldman, who have collaborated on past EST performances including "Hair," "Grease," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Annie," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Rent,"and last year's BroadwayWorld Chicago Award nominee "Next to Normal."

Auditions for the Elgin-produced musical will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, May 16, to Wednesday, May 18, at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin. It is open to the public.

Those auditioning should be age 16 and older, wear comfortable clothes, and prepare a 60- to 120-second selection of music from the musical "A Chorus Line" or a piece in the pop/rock genre to perform a cappella. Auditions are first-come, first-served but priority will be given to those who fill out the online audition form.
