Boys water polo: Top seeds Stevenson, Mundelein roll at Buffalo Grove

The top seed in the Buffalo Grove boys water polo sectional had no trouble in its first postseason test as Stevenson claimed on 22-7 victory over No. 8 seed Lake Forest on Wednesday.

The Patriots (24-6) got 4 goals from Alex Kapecki and will face No. 4 seed McHenry in the sectional semifinals at 5 p.m. Friday.

McHenry 15, Palatine 13: The fourth-seeded Warriors (15-1) advanced to a semifinal matchup with Stevenson by outlasting the fifth-seeded Pirates.

Seniors Ivan Turkan (6 goals) and Jake Conrad (17 blocks, 3 steals) led the way for Palatine (8-22). Senior Marcus Carter-Buckman and junior T.J. May both had 2 goals, senior Alex Adame scored once and junior Dylan White scored twice and drew 7 ejections.

McHenry's effort was led by Kevin Braun and Jackson Smith with 6 goals apiece.

Mundelein 19, Libertyville 4: The second-seeded Mustangs (23-8) advanced to a 6 p.m. Friday semifinal against the third seed, Mid-Suburban East champion Wheeling (20-10).

Matt Schaedel had 7 goals for Mundelein and Mike Ward had 5.

Libertyville, which got 2 goals apiece from Billy Becker and Jacob Lex, wrapped up its season with a record of 10-17.

Wheeling 10, Buffalo Grove 6: In a matchup of the top two finishers in the Mid-Suburban East, Wheeling prevailed behind 5 goals from Nate Reiff and 4 from Jake Noel.

Brandon Monsen scored twice for Buffalo Grove (17-15).
