Softball: Schaumburg edges Barrington

Senior Paige Alt (2-for-2) belted 2 solo home runs and was the winning pitcher in host Schaumburg's 3-2 win over Barrington in Mid-Suburban West softball on Wednesday.

Other hits for the Saxons (16-7, 10-3) were from Natalie Napier (1B), Cate Poplar, Sarah Schwind (RBI) and Alex Cook (1B).

"It was a great team win," said Saxons coach Ellen Abreu. "We had some amazing plays on the day."

The game ended with a perfect throw from center fielder Kaiden Jackson to catcher Janalee Lyke to the get would-be tying run out at the plate.

Carly Kordich went 2-for-3 for Barrington (22-6, 10-4) while Abbey Jacobsen (1B), Rachel Krzysko (RBI), Liz Sweeney (RBI) and Jenna Fingerman (double) had 1 hit apiece.

Rolling Meadows 7, Prospect 1: The Kings were the kings at the plate for Meadows.

Senior Megan King and her sophomore sister Mallory each went 2-for-3 as the only multiple hitters for Meadows in a 7-1 victory over Prospect.

Due to field conditions at Meadows, the game was moved to Prospect but the Mustangs remained the home team on scoreboard.

Mallory King's 2 hits were both doubles and she finished with a pair of RBI.

Others who hit safely for Meadows (15-12, 6-7) were Sara Benner (1-for-3, 2 RBI) and Caroline Slowik (1-for-3, 2 RBI).

Mustangs junior pitcher Lydia Schultz (12-8) struck out 10 while tossing a 4-hitter.

Sophomore Alyssa Cacini doubled for the Knights (5-17, 3-10).

Buffalo Grove 8, Wheeling 4: Freshmen Jacqueline Bickhaus (4-for-4, 3 RBI, double, 1 run) and Bailey Williams (3-for-4, 1 run, RBI) led the offense for visiting Buffalo Grove (6-17, 4-10).

Grace Gran also doubled for BG.

Junior pitcher Alyssa DePhillips threw a 7-hitter with 5 strikeouts while Dakota Medrano struck out three for Wheeling (0-16, 0-12).

Medrano and Nicole Ferraro each doubled for the Wildcats while teammate Kirsten Wilhelm went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Palatine 7, Hoffman Estates 2: Sophomore Maddie Craver (8-3) earned the MSL West decision with 6 strikeouts against the Hawks (3-22, 1-13).

Grace Huff (3-for-4, triple, double, RBI, 2 runs, stolen base), Kenzie Craver (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI), Brooke Bauer (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI) and Megan Breytenbach (2-for-4, RBI) led the offense for Palatine (9-14, 6-8), the home team on the scoreboard.

Postponed: The MSL West game featuring Conant (19-4, 12-0) at Fremd (19-4, 10-2) was postponed due to field conditions and will be played Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. in Palatine.

Maine South 4, Maine West 1: Junior Grace Feldkamp and senior Kayla Pociejewski each belted triples and senior Monica Liwag had a double for the host Warriors (5-13) in the CSL crossover contest.

Nora McDonald had 2 hits for the Warriors while teammate Nicole Byerly had one.
