Tarkington students celebrate Arbor Day

Third-graders from Tarkington Elementary School celebrated Arbor Day on April 29 by planting a tree with help from the village of Wheeling. In addition to learning facts about trees and Arbor Day, students received a special gift from the village. Each third-grader received their own evergreen tree sapling.

"We appreciate the support from the village of Wheeling and our school board members to foster this partnership and share with our students the importance of Arbor Day," said Dr. Joe Arduino, principal of Tarkington Elementary School.

The village has also been designated as a "Tree City USA" community by the Arbor Day Foundation for its efforts to plant and protect trees. The village presented Tarkington with its own "Tree City USA" flag to mark the occasion.
