Softball: Victory No. 20 worth the wait for Libertyville

It took 9 innings, but Libertyville didn't mind waiting for victory No. 20 of the high school softball season.

The visiting Wildcats topped Warren 5-3 on Monday with Hannah Heraty going the whole way in North Suburban Lake play. She allowed 10 hits and struck out 13.

Libertyville scored 3 runs in the top of the ninth and limited Warren to 1 run in the bottom half of the inning.

Libertyville coach Elissa Wisniewski credited "fantastic defense" for keeping Libertyville close and preventing Warren from getting big innings.

"Warren put the ball in play hard," said Wisniewski, "and our defense did a good job sticking with plays."

Jessie Lauret finished 3-for-5 and Kenzie Rother went 2-for-2 for Libertyville.

Carmel 11, Marian Central 3: Jordan Swiatkowski (double, 2 RBI) and Karina Falkstrom (triple, RBI) were both 2-for-4 for the Corsairs in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

Carmel (16-7, 3-2) had 10 hits.

Claire Petrus pitched 5 innings in earning the win, allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run. She struck out six and walked two.

Wauconda 1, Lakes 0: Brooke Sefcik had 2 hits, including a double, for Wauconda.

Winning pitcher Kayla Wedl rolled up 10 strikeouts over seven innings.

Grant 7, Vernon Hills 5: Freshman Calista Warmowski went 3-for-4 with a double to lead Grant.

Hannah McCall and Kenzie Sancken added 2 hits apiece for the Bulldogs.

For Vernon Hills, six different players got a hit while Anna Cirone, Danielle Comitor and Nicole Pieper drove in runs.

Grayslake Central 17, Woodstock 4: Brooke Heraty went 4-for-4 with a double to lead Grayslake Central, which rolled up 15 hits.

Nicole Warren added 3 hits and Lexi Waigand, Morgan Smigielski and Breanna Albert each had 2 hits for the Rams.

Waigand had a home run.

Winning pitcher Trinity Buck rolled up 8 strikeouts over six innings.

Marengo 13, Antioch 1: Piper Foote drove in Antioch's only run. The Sequoits allowed 12 hits and had 3 errors.

Prairie Ridge 5, Grayslake North 2: Prairie Ridge out-hit Grayslake North 10-7 and got out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
