  Vernon Hills Park District maintenance worker James Schubert cuts down an ash tree in Century Park on Monday. The crews are removing ash trees and other diseased trees in the park. According to VHPD Park Foreman Rick Krocza, ash trees are being eliminated because of Emerald Ash Borer disease while other trees are coming to the end of their life span and need to be replaced. In 2016, there were 65 new trees planted with 23 of them being species that did not exist in the park previously. New trees include different varieties of apple and cherry trees, pear trees, Magnolias, Weeping Alaskan Cedar, Princeton Gold Maple, European Larch and many others. Gilbert R.
