Finding a buyer for dishes can be difficult
Q. Enclosed is a photo of one place setting of my lovely china dishes. The set was purchased in 1950 - the year we were married. At the time, we paid $1,289 for a complete service for 14, plus several serving pieces. My husband is in a nursing home and we no longer need the set. We have no family left and I would like to sell it. Marked on the back of each dish are the words "Rosenthal - Germany - Aida." The pattern is "Pine Needles." The set is in perfect, like-new condition. I would like to sell the set for $250 or best offer.
I hope you can provide me with any information on how to find a buyer or how to sell my china.
A. It can be very difficult to sell a set of vintage porcelain dinnerware. You might check with an antiques dealer and see if they would be interested. There are several businesses that buy and resell pre-owned porcelain dishes and glassware. They market vintage, current and discontinued dishes to those who want to buy replacements or complete sets. The replacement or matching businesses can be found on the Internet. If you contact one, they will explain all the details for the transaction. Some people have luck selling by listing in the classified ads in their local newspaper.
Q. I have a set of wooden "Dragon Dominoes" that was made in 1970 by Milton Bradley Co. and have enclosed the mark that is on the box. Also on the box are the words "Double Twelve - 91 Pieces - Ages 7 to Adult - Springfield - Massachusetts - 4133 - Made in USA." There is a sticker that says the game sold for 95 cents at Lugbill Supply Center, Archbold, Ohio. The box and the dominoes are in good condition.
Is there any value in my set of dominoes? Any comments will be appreciated.
A. Milton Bradley Co. was founded in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1860. They experienced huge success producing board games. One of their first was "The Checkered Game of Life" and by 1861 they had made 45,000. Along with board games, they also made croquet sets, and the electronic games "Simon" and "Microvision." Halsam was a toy manufacturer that was purchased in 1962 by Playskool. In 1967, Milton Bradley purchased Playskool. Hasbro bought Milton Bradley in 1984.
If your dominoes set has all the pieces and is in very good condition, it would probably be worth $25 to $35.
