Baseball: Elk Grove, Prospect continue on winning path

Elk Grove won its third straight baseball game and maintained its lead in the Mid-Suburban East with a 3-2 victory over Fremd, the MSL West's second-place team, on Friday.

Winning pitcher Christian Camacho allowed 8 hits in a complete-game effort. He struck out six and walked two.

Chuck Fleming had an RBI double for the Grens, and AJ Lorenz drove in a run on a groundout.

Charlie Kaye produced 3 hits for Fremd (12-7, 9-4). Ethan Hajdukovic drove in a run with a single in the third inning, and Tommy Josten got the Vikes within a run in the seventh with a fielder's choice RBI.

Elk Grove (18-7, 10-2) hosts Prospect in a matchup of the East Division's top two teams Monday.

Prospect 10, Palatine 7: Grant Zellmer led a productive Knights lineup by producing a single, double and a homer in MSL play.

Host Prospect (15-6, 7-5) had a 4-run second inning and 3-run fourth inning to take command and make a winner of starter Brendan O'Brien (4⅓ IP, 2 earned runs).

Richie Baszek doubled twice and led the Knights with 3 RBI, while Ryan Howe and Ryan Molini both doubled and finished with 2 hits.

Jack Grochowski had 3 hits for Palatine (15-6, 7-5), and Chris Refka, Brendan Walker and Charlie Van Dyke had 2 hits apiece.

Hersey 9, Hoffman Estates 6: Brett Harris drove in the go-ahead run as the host Huskies battled from behind to pick up an MSL victory.

Hoffman Estates (7-14, 2-11) jumped in front with a 4-run first and led 6-2 after scoring a couple more runs in the fifth inning. Lucas Barnes homered and Ryan Davalos had a double, as the Hawks had 6 hits and 7 walks but left 10 runners on base.

Owen Goldsberry and Harris both doubled in Hersey's 8-hit effort. Harris finished with 3 RBI, while Zach Blevins drove in 2 runs and Paul Tokar and Goldsberry both had 2 hits.

Buzz Lindgren earned a victory in relief. He tossed the last 3 innings for Hersey (8-13, 5-7), allowing 2 hits and 3 walk but no runs.

Rolling Meadows 6, Schaumburg 5: The host Mustangs withstood a 3-run, seventh-inning rally to win their third straight Mid-Suburban League matchup.

Ryan Laboda doubled twice and drove in 2 runs for Rolling Meadows (3-18, 3-9), which led 5-0 after 4 innings.

The Saxons (11-11, 5-7) scored twice in the fifth inning before their seventh-inning surge. Andrew Ralston, Jacob Rintz, Parker Nolan and Tyler Fredrickson had 2 hits apiece. Nolan doubled and drove in 3 runs.

Marco Perez earned the win. He threw 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs.

Alex Rezny, the fourth pitcher of the day for the Mustangs, got the last two outs and picked up a save.

Barrington 15, Wheeling 1 (5 inn.): The visiting Broncos plated 6 runs in the first inning on their way to victory.

Blake Swanson homered, Jimmy Day had a pair of doubles and Tristan Michaels and Patrick Dehnert tripled as the Broncos (20-6, 11-1) banged out 18 hits.

Ryan Loutos earned a victory after allowing 1 unearned run over 4 innings.

Bryan Niznik had a pair of hits for Wheeling (9-17, 2-10).

Conant 6, Buffalo Grove 1: Solid pitching, error-free defense and steady production at the plate helped the visiting Cougars win for the fourth time in the last five games in MSL play.

Ryan Roberts and Jim McLaughlin both finished 3-for-4 and drove in a run, and Jimmy Brady had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored twice for Conant (13-13, 6-6).

Matt Mills allowed 2 hits over 6 innings, and Josh Pozniak pitched a scoreless seventh for the Cougars.

Tyler Rundquist had a pair of hits and drove in the run for Buffalo Grove (10-13, 6-6).

Christian Liberty 10, Hiawatha 1: Aiden Miller had a memorable afternoon as the Chargers won in Northeastern Athletic Conference play.

The junior was the pitcher of record, allowing only a first-inning run and 2 hits. He excelled at the plate as well, doubling and tripling as part of a 12-hit effort by Christian Liberty.
