Huntley man accused of armed robbery of 7-Eleven

A Huntley man has been charged with armed robbery of a 7-Eleven in town, police said.

Alize Q.L. Smith, 19, of the 11300 block of Timer Drive, faces felony charges of aggravated robbery armed with a firearm and theft, police said.

Smith entered the convenience store on the 12400 block of Princeton Drive early Saturday morning. He was dressed in black clothing with his hands and face covered. He displayed a black handgun and demanded money from the cash register, police said.

Smith fled with an undisclosed amount of money before officers arrived at the scene about 3:09 a.m., police said.

Officers searched the area with the help of a K-9 unit from the Kane County sheriff's office, but they did not find the suspect.

On Thursday, Huntley police investigators investigated a person of interest being held by the McHenry City Police Department, which led to the charges against Smith.

Smith also has been charged in a Thursday morning armed robbery of a payday loan store in McHenry, where he is accused of threatening store employees with a BB gun before taking more than $10,000, according to a Northwest Herald report.

Smith is being held at the McHenry County jail.
