'Finding Neverland' to close this summer on Broadway

NEW YORK (AP) - "Finding Neverland," which never really found a Broadway audience, will close and try its luck in London.

The show announced Friday it will play its last performance on Aug. 21 and hopes to open in the West End in the spring of 2017. A national tour will launch on Oct. 11 in Buffalo, New York.

"Finding Neverland" is an adaptation from the 2004 whimsical film about a widow whose four young sons inspired J.M. Barrie to write the children's classic "Peter Pan."

Despite grossing $54 million since opening last spring, the $20 million show has failed to recoup and has been a lackluster box office draw despite starring Kelsey Grammer and Matthew Morrison. It earned no Tony nominations.

Producer Harvey Weinstein promised a film of the musical.
