Warren FBLA students attend State Leadership Conference

Warren Township High School's chapter of Future Business Leaders of America attended the 67th annual State Leadership Conference, held in April. Seventy-seven members competed and 65 of these members placed in 47 different events.

Warren's FBLA was awarded the Robert T. Stickler Award for the state's most outstanding chapter.

Two Warren members presided at the conference as state officers: Ammar Khan as the State Vice President of the Northern Area and Hannah Frier as the State Secretary.

Warren FBLA will once again have two state officers. Shruthi Kondin will serve as the 2016-17 Illinois State Parliamentarian and Hannah Frier will serve as the State Vice President of the Northern Area.

Warren adviser Kelly Wilkerson was the recipient of the Mary E. Webb Award, given to an outstanding adviser from the state of Illinois. In addition, Warren adviser Chris Mason was recognized for 25 years of service as an FBLA adviser.

The National Leadership Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, June 29 to July 2.

The following members placed first in their event and qualified for nationals: Emily Rukstales, 3-D Animation; Olivia Chen, Electronic Career Portfolio; Timothy Le and Gina Mannino, Emerging Business Issues; Connor Leden, Future Business Leader; Becky Holtcamp and Morgan Suchomel, Graphic Design; Lahari Kolli, Introduction to Business Communication; Emily Johnson, Introduction to Business Procedures; Asif Huq and Connor Leden, Local Chapter Annual Report; Shruthi Kondin, Parliamentary Procedure; Hannah Frier and Morgan Suchomel, Partnership with Business; Kaitlyn Smith and Alanna Martin, American Enterprise System.

The following members placed second in their event and qualified for nationals: Megan Martin and Vicente Serrano, Business Financial Plan; Gabrielle Alcala, Database Design and Applications; Mikey Aykroid, Insurance and Risk Management; Naved Salim, Parliamentary Procedure; Carl Fleming and Sergio Cadiena, PSA; Sahil Tripurana, Public Speaking I; Surabhi Jois and Asmau Diallo, Social Media Campaign; Omair Iqbal and Philip Sojka, Sports and Entertainment Management; Edgar Lomeli, Spreadsheet Applications.

In addition, Aarushi Shankar finished second in the Scrits event, which is a state event only.

The following members placed third in their event and qualified for nationals: Kyle Farmer, Accounting II, Jamie Alexakos, Community Service Project; Nicole Kravtsov, Community Service Project; Alyssa Fuller, Computer Applications; Megane Beaupre, Digital Video Production; Ana Guassi-Moreira, Digital Video Production; Milan Patel and Setu Patel, Entrepreneurship; Ammar Khan, Parliamentary Procedure; Hannah Frier, Publication Design; Maddie Ruotsi, Publication Design; Emma Paukert, Sales Presentation; Luke Jaffe, Securities and Investments; Abby Carlton, Website Design; Hannah Parmar, Website Design; Connor Leden, Who's Who in Illinois.

The following members placed fourth in their event and qualified for nationals: Shivank Gupta, Accounting I; Brendan Schmidt, Business Plan; Elijah Garcia, Introduction to Business Presentation; Cynthia Tsarpalas, Introduction to Business Presentation; Shyama Bhatt, Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure; Asif Huq, Parliamentary Procedure; Kaitlyn Smith, Word Processing.

Other top 10 finishers were Grace Prendergast, Business Law; Nick Zblewski, Impromptu Speaking; Bismah Arif, Business Ethics; Nikhita Ramachandrula, Business Ethics; Nihad Mokkath, FBLA Principles and Procedures; Sruthi Jayanti, Introduction to Information Technology; Nicole Kravtsov, Networking Concepts; Jonathan Morrelli, Banking & Financial Systems; Katherine Cordova, Banking & Financial Systems; Emma Sharpe, Hospitality Management; Amber Vondruska, Hospitality Management; Richard Chiu, Introduction to Financial Math; Rachel Romualdo, Personal Finance; Evan Leden, Introduction to Business Procedures; Alanna Martin, Job Interview; Macy Weslager, Management Decision Making; Kelly Cook, Management Decision Making; Haiwen Liu, Business Calculations; Anna Telling, Global Business; Jessica Rojas, Global Business; Eric Rapanan, Introduction to Business Communication; Kaylee Reyes, Introduction to Information Technology.

Members who received the Business Achievement Award for completion of the Leader Level include the following: Olivia Chen, Hannah Frier, Asif Huq, Connor Leden, and Vicente Serrano.

Warren Township High School's FBLA chapter also won the following awards as a group: First place, Largest Local Chapter Membership (416 members); First place, Largest Professional Membership; First place, Robert T. Stickler Award; First place, Parliamentary Procedure Team; Recognition for participation: Support American Enterprise Day, Go Green Project, State Newsletter Contribution, Connecting Generations Project and Promote FBLA Week.
