Embrace adventure, Olympic fever at Schaumburg's summer camps

Hello Muddah, hello Fadduh, the Schaumburg Park District has an awesome lineup of camps this summer.

Early registration is highly recommended to ensure spots in the top camps of your choice. Camp themes include sports, art, music, nature and Lego.

Just in time to celebrate the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro is Junior Olympic Camp at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Open to ages 6 to 8, the camp includes swimming and track competitions, medals and an opening and closing ceremony. Camp begins June 20; July and August sessions also are available.

Another Olympic-themed camp includes Spring Valley Jr. Olympics at the Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Camp begins Aug. 1 for children ages 5 to 6.

Also new this summer is the Frozen Claymation Camp, where children ages 7 to 10 will use clay, digital cameras and animation software programs to create, assemble and edit their own movies. Each camper will receive a copy of his or her movie once the class is complete.

Got a little performer? Children ages 8 and older are invited to join in the new Bravo Show Choir camp. Participants will learn songs and movements and perform at community events.

Returning are popular camps such as the water and swimming-themed Wet & Wild, and the always-free Wacky Wagon Camp.

Teen Voyager includes full days of field trips and sports throughout the summer. Early childhood camps for tots and preschoolers also are available, including favorites such as Camptastic Day Camp, Indoor Outdoor Camp, Color Splash Camp and Fruits and Veggies to the Rescue Camp.

The Schaumburg Park District 2016 Summer Camps booklet may be found in the spring program guide. For a full list of camps, also visit www.parkfun.com.
