Baseball: Batavia nips Geneva

Geneva (16-8, 9-5) rallied for 2 runs in the seventh inning to tie things up only to see Batavia walk off in the bottom half to a 4-3 win on a Kyle Niemiec (2-for-4) single to right that scored Luke Golson in Upstate Eight River baseball action Wednesday.

Jimmy Roach also had 2 hits for Batavia (11-5, 7-5) while Tyler Kledzik and Glenn Albanese, Jr. had an RBI each. Pitcher Craig Rowland earned the win in relief of Ethan Krumwiede (4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 1BB) and Brent Norkus while Noah Davison (6.2 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 2 K, 5 BB) suffered the loss on the bump. Geneva's Matthew Simpson (1 hit) and Jack Wassel each 1 RBI.

St. Charles North 11, Elgin 0: Conor Bizik's pinch-hit 3-run homer helped the North Stars (20-3, 13-1) cruise to another UEC River win over the Maroons. Zach Fick had 2 hits and 2 RBI while Brendan Joyce (2 hits, RBI) and Zach Mettetal added doubles. Winning pitcher Ryan Litavecz needed just 5 innings, 5 hits, 4 strikeouts and 1 walk to halt Elgin (5-17, 4-6).

St. Charles East 11, Streamwood 1: The Saints (17-7, 8-3) jumped on the Sabres for 3 in the first and used 4-spots in the fourth and fifth innings to total 11 runs on 11 hits in this UEC River win. Anthony Adduci (2 hits) led St. Charles East with a double and 4 RBI. Other hitting stars included Corbin Marucco and Kyle Tiltges (RBI), who each doubled and had 2 hits while Niko Klebosits (2 hits, RBI) shut down Streamwood (6-15, 2-9) on the mound allowing 3 hits on 1 run with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.

CL South 5, Huntley 2: In a completion of a suspended game from Tuesday night, the Gators finished off the Red Raiders thanks to Nick Wolski's (2 RBI) homer and Tyler Carlson's 3 hits and 1 RBI. Nick Van Witzenburg also notched 3 hits and Michael Humphrey had 2 hits and 1 RBI. Luke Dunham's 5 innings were good for the win as he allowed 3 hits on 2 runs (none earned) with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk. Tim Siesennop tallied a 2-inning save. Huntley's top hitters were Jeff Heinrich with 2 hits while Tyler Koss and Joe Rizzo had 1 RBI each. Starter Nick Laxner suffered the loss for Huntley.

CL South 7, Huntley 3: The Gators (19-3, 10-3) rallied twice in the second and fifth innings while adding 3 insurance runs in the sixth to grab another win against the Red Raiders (15-10, 6-6) in FVC Valley action. Humphrey (RBI) added 2 hits for the Gators while Wolski, Carlson, Griffin Bright, Michael Swiatly and Ryan Parquette all had 1 RBI. Siesennop (3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K) earned the win in relief while Ethan Weinandy (3 K, 1 BB) locked down the save in 1.1 innings pitched. Alec Coss and Jeff Heinrich (3 hits, 2 RS) doubled for the Red Raiders. Adam Smylie suffered the loss on the mound giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, 2 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4 ⅓ innings pitched.

Cary-Grove 5, McHenry 1: Ben Livicki (2 hits, 2 RBI) homered and doubled for the Trojans (17-7, 8-2) as all 5 runs came in the second inning of this FVC Valley win over the Warriors. Quinn Celske (RBI) and Mark Smith doubled to help pitcher Matt McCumber get the win on the mound. On 80 pitches, McCumber threw 59 strikes and allowed just 2 hits on 1 run to go with 10 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Jacobs 5, Homewood-Flossmoor 1: Pitcher Casey Dennison allowed 4 hits and 1 run on 8 strikeouts and 2 walks in 7 innings as Jacobs (15-9) secured a nonconference win. Both Tim Randl and Adam Kale (double) had 2 RBI and Stevie Krueger walked twice and scored 2 runs, as Jacobs scored 2 in the first and 3 in the second innings to pad Dennison early.

ACC 11, Guerin 0: An 8-run second inning was all the Chargers (15-9) needed in this Metro Suburban crossover win. Sean Sinisko (2 RBI) and Jimmy Laurenti doubled for ACC while Kyle Czerak, Mario Magana, Kyle Nilo and Ryan Poplawski each had 1 RBI. Pitcher John Cosgrave's 2-hit shutout along with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk earned him the win in 5 innings of work.

Larkin 7, Harvest Christian 6: The Royals (4-18) came back in style down 1 run in the seventh on a walk off by Kobe Mounivong (3 RBI), whose single to right scored Zach Edgar to cap a wild nonconference win. Prior to the winning run, Michael Rodriguez scored on a sac fly by Kordell Thomas. Andy Bonnot led Larkin with 2 hits while Cy Kerber notched the win in relief. Joey Pepper (3 hits, 2 RBI) doubled for the Lions (15-11) while Drew Lewis (2 RBI) and Brock Wilken (RBI) each had 2 hits.

West Aurora 5, East Aurora 4: Jake Lipscomb went 3-for-3 with a run scored and both Cody Wyeth (RBI) and Matt Desjardine (RBI) had 2 hits in this UEC Valley win for the Blackhawks (8-11, 5-4). Oscar Acevedo, Jake Arsenault and Connor Palmby each had 1 RBI to help Jacob Gray (9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 7K, 2 BB) get the win, who hurled 111 pitched in 7 innings of work on the mound. East Aurora's Issac Jimenez had 2 RBI in the loss.

Prairie Ridge 11, Hampshire 2: The Whip-Purs (11-12, 5-8) only mustered 2 runs on 5 hits in this FVC Fox loss to the Wolves. Prairie Ridge rallied for 3 runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings. Carter Lawler was 2-for-2 with 1 RBI while Kevin Michaelsen doubled for Hampshire, who saw Jacob Manning take the loss on the mound.

Marmion 2, St. Laurence 2 (suspended): The Cadets were at bat in the top of the 10th inning when this Chicago Catholic Conference game was suspended due to darkness. It will be completed Thursday prior to scheduled game at Marmion.
