Auditions set for Fox Valley Rising Stars Young Artist Program

Soirée Lyrique will hold auditions for the Fox Valley Rising Stars Young Artist Program May 14 and June 4.

Local artists and aspiring young opera singers are encourage to audition. The program is opened to singers of all ages. Preference will be given to singers residing in the Midwest and with a classical foundation; no pop singers.

To be considered for an audition, send your resume and picture via email at office@soireelyrique.org. Younger singers should provide a short bio of their musical experience or studies if they don't have a resume.

A registration/audition fee of $10 will be due on the date of the audition. A pianist will be provided.

Selected singers will perform solos, duets and small ensembles.

Three productions are set for the following dates:

• Fourth of July Performance: An outdoor concert to be held at DuPage Court in Elgin following the parade at 1 p.m. Performance will be moved to Al's Café in case of rain. Music will include patriotic songs, musical theater excerpts and American composers.

• A Walk on Broadway: An outdoor concert will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 10, on the Terrace of Snuffy's Villa in West Dundee. Performance will be moved to the music room in case of rain. Singers will perform excerpts from musical theater, Broadway shows and movies.

• Opera Scenes: A staged production of opera excerpts to be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Elgin.

Singers can choose to audition for a single event or all three. Auditions will be held in the afternoon Saturday, May 14, and Saturday, June 4, in the Music Room of Snuffy's Villa, 17N405 Oak Ave. in West Dundee. Visit www.soireelyrique.org for a map. A pianist will be provided.

The fee for the program ranges from $30 to $50 to help cover coaching, rehearsal pianist, rental space, publicity, playbills, etc. Details are on the application form.
