Celebrate spring with Oakton's Noteworthy Festival

Oakton's annual Noteworthy Festival, a musical celebration featuring recitals and concerts showcasing the college's student performers and music faculty, is scheduled May 4-13 at the Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. All performances are at 8 p.m. and admission to each event is $5.

• Guitar Recital, Wednesday, May 4.

Kick off the festival with selections of classical and contemporary guitar music. Coordinated by Yale School of Music alumnus Tom Clippert, the performance features solos, duets and selections from the Oakton Guitar Ensemble.

• String Ensemble, Monday, May 9.

The Oakton String Ensemble is directed by Daniel Golden, instructor of music. Eileen Berman, well-known soprano and Oakton faculty member, will perform arias by Mozart, Puccini and Lehar. Golden and Berman will play two songs for voice and viola by Brahms. Violist Yukako Nakano performs Bach's "Double Violin Concerto," Holist's "St. Paul Suite," and Beethoven's "Romance in F Major."

• Vocal Recital, Wednesday, May 11.

Voice students directed by Eileen Berman display their talent in Broadway and classical favorites.

• Choral Recital, Thursday, May 12.

Classic choral pieces and modern songs combine to create a lovely evening of song and voice by student musicians.

• Jazz Invasion, Friday, May 13.

The Oakton Jazz Ensemble, led by music instructor Robert Evans, will perform jazz classics and big band hits.

Free preconcert discussions begin at 7:30 p.m. in the lobby before the String Ensemble and Jazz Invasion concerts and provide insight on featured pieces.
