Adventurer to share favorite local spots

McHenry County Green Drinks will welcome John Kremer of the McHenry County Conservation District who will present "Have Fun! Homegrown Adventures, Vacations and Explorations Found Under Your Nose!" from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen, upstairs, 110 N. Main St. in Crystal Lake.

Kremer, a lifelong adventurer, is the director of operations & public safety at MCCD.

Environmentally-minded people gather to network and talk about "greening" the future on the first Wednesday of each month. Everyone is welcome to attend.

When many people think of adventure, it invokes thoughts of the once-a-year grand vacations to far-off destinations or trips to the family cabin a few times a summer. However, Kremer fills all four seasons with adventure through an active outdoor lifestyle, discovering little gems along the way which are tucked away in local communities.

Kremer will discuss how to augment a hike through a conservation area, bike ride on a trail, or paddle down a river with added side trips, lunch stops and interesting history to make the day instill lasting memories. Kremer will share some of his local favorite adventures and how he took them from concept to fun-filled explorations by finding those gems along the way. He hopes that by showing how he does it, he will encourage others to discover their own local adventures.

Future topics will be: nutrient loss reduction strategy on June 1; ticks on July 6; and native pollinators on Aug. 3.

Additional parking is available at the train station. To be added to the Green Drinks email GreenDrinksMC@gmail.com or "like" the group at www.facebook.com/GreenDrinksMcHenryCounty.

Green Drinks McHenry County is sponsored by the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen.
