Yarbrough signs as free agent with Broncos
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Former Wyoming defensive end Eddie Yarbrough has signed a three-year free agent contract with his hometown Denver Broncos.
Yarbrough, a native of Aurora, Colorado, was not selected in the NFL Draft over the weekend but received a number of free agent offers after the draft had concluded on Saturday.
Yarbrough said besides the Broncos, the Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers also called.
"It was kind of like going back to the college ranks and being recruited," Yarbrough told the Wyoming Tribune Eagle (http://bit.ly/1pWLEkG).
"Denver gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. To stay home and be a hometown kid, represent my home state and the Wyoming Cowboys, it's hard to beat," he said.
Terms of Yarbrough's contract have not been disclosed. Yarbrough reports to rookie mini-camp on Thursday in Denver. He said the contract is valid as long as he makes the team, which is something he's not worried about.
"I have the confidence in myself that I will make the team. I'm not nervous about that," he said.
Yarbrough worked out for the Broncos last month in Denver. He said the team projects him to play defensive end in its 4-3 scheme. He played defensive end during his four-year career at UW, and the Cowboys ran a 4-3 defense the last two years.
Yarbrough was a three-time First Team All-Mountain West selection as a defensive end with Wyoming. With the Cowboys, Yarbrough recorded 256 tackles, 21.5 quarterback sacks and 39 tackles for loss. He also forced and recovered four fumbles.
