Softball: Huntley routs Marengo; Zdroik closes in on St. Edward K record
Jessica Shields and Megan Baczewski were each 4-for-4 and Tiffany Giese scattered 6 hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks Saturday as Huntley's softball team rolled to a 12-2 win over perennial Class 3A power Marengo in a nonconference game at Marengo.
Shields had 2 triples and 2 RBI for the Red Raiders (14-5), Baczewski drove in a run, Rylie Porretto was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Sofie Tenuta had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI.
St. Edward 8, Larkin 0: Lindsay Zdroik hit her eighth home run of the season and had 4 RBI as well as pitching a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead the Green Wave (14-6) to a nonconference win. Zdroik now has 641 career strikeouts and is 39 away from tying Jackie Brittain's school record. In Saturday's win, Devyn Ernst added 2 hits and 2 RBI for St. Edward and Jackie Boyston had a double. Sam Wahl had Larkin's only hit.
Jacobs 23, Johnsburg 4: The Golden Eagles (5-8) pounded out 25 hits in winning this nonconference game. Teaghan Richman was 5-for-5 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI while Kerri Healy (3 RBI), Sarah Murray (HR, 2 2Bs, 5 RBI) and Emily Borg (2B, 3 RBI) had 4 hits each. Alexis Addante added 3 hits and 2 RBI, Katie Borchert had a double and an RBI, winning pitcher Brittany Feldmann had 2 hits with a double and Felicia Ruffolo added 2 hits and an RBI. Feldmann allowed 8 hits and had 12 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Elgin 1, Westminster Christian 0: Jessica Rago allowed 5 hits with 9 strikeouts and no walks as Elgin (4-16) won this nonconference game. Rachel Turner's double in the fourth inning drove in Casey Perfors with the game's only run. Rago also had a double for the Maroons and Jasmine Jackson added 2 hits. Kristen Mason took the loss for Westminster (5-9).
