Elgin pet expo brings in 500-600 animals

A steady downfall of spring rain couldn't keep the constant line of canines of all sizes, shapes and smells from attending the Elgin Pet Expo Saturday.

The City of Elgin hosted their Pet Expo to expose the public to the pet-related services available in Elgin and surrounding communities.

The free event at the Hemmens Cultural Center offered a chance to meet local pet groomers, pet food suppliers, trainers, nonprofit groups and veterinarians. This year the number of animals visiting was estimated to be between 500 and 600.

The Pet Health and Safety Event was also held during the expo. This part of the event provided low-cost vaccinations and microchips to the animals of Elgin residents.
