Baseball: West Aurora deals South Elgin 1st UEC Valley loss

JJ Rivera allowed just 3 hits and 1 earned run in 6 innings Friday as the West Aurora baseball team handed South Elgin its first Upstate Eight Valley loss of the season, 6-3.

Rivera also had a double while Connor Palmby added 2 hits and 3 RBI for the Blackhawks (6-10-1, 2-4), Logan Love had 2 hits with a double and Ryan Becker added 2 hits.

Bryant Diel had a double for South Elgin (11-5, 5-1) and Adam Walker suffered the loss on the mound.

Streamwood 7, Elgin 0: Colin Caminitti threw a 3-hitter with 5 strikeouts and no walks and added a double at the plate for the Sabres (5-12, 2-7) in their UEC River win. Keagan Cordone had 2 hits with a double and an RBI for Streamwood while Tim Crom added 2 hits with a home run, a double and 3 RBI and Ryan Fitzgerald had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Will Welch took the loss for Elgin (5-16, 4-5).

Bartlett 8, Glenbard East 4: Shane Donovan allowed just 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks and Mike Prang had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI to lead Bartlett (6-12, 3-2) to a UEC Valley win. Cameron Mays (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Kyle Kucharski (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Ryan Temesvary (2B) also pitched in for the Bartlett offense.

St. Charles East 12, Larkin 3: Kyle Tiltges was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and winning pitcher Niko Klebosits had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI as the Saints (14-6, 6-3) won this UEC River game. Joe Sciarrino added a double and 2 RBI for SCE, Thomas Adams had 2 RBI and Corbin Marucco contributed a double. Cy Kerber, Seth Morford and Joey Rahn had 2 hits each for Larkin (2-16, 0-11) and Kordell Thomas added a double and an RBI.

Burlington Central 8, Johnsburg 6: The Rockets (11-7, 7-1) scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to win this Big Northern East game. John Murphy had 3 hits with 2 doubles and an RBI for BC while Craig Schuring added 2 hits with a double and an RBI, Killian Vasica had 3 hits with a home run, Brandon Van Buren 2 hits and Clay Milas a double. Van Buren was the winning pitcher in relief.

Huntley 11, McHenry 2: Jeff Heinrich had 2 doubles and Joe Rizzo added 2 hits and 2 RBI to lead Huntley (13-5, 8-2) to a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Brad Model also had 2 hits with a double and an RBI and Tyler Koss added a double and an RBI for the Red Raiders. Adam Smylie allowed 2 hits with 4 strikeouts an a walk in 3 innings to earn the win on the mound.

CL South 3, Grayslake Central 2: The Gators (16-3, 7-3) made the most of 4 hits in winning this FVC crossover. Cam Geisser had a double and an RBI for Crystal Lake South, which got a winning effort on the mound from Keeton Ryza (5⅔ IP, 4 hits, 2 Ks, 1 BB).

Ridgewood 4, ACC 1: Ryan Poplawski and Sean Sinisko each had 2 hits while Patrick Flanagan and Jake Smith doubled for Aurora Central in this Metro Suburban loss. Austin Berens (6 IP, 6 hits, 6 Ks, 2 BBs) took the loss for the Chargers (13-7, 8-1).

Aurora Christian 19, Hinckley-Big Rock 0: Dustin Barrett went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI to lead the Eagles (15-4-1) to a nonconference win. Also contributing were winning pitcher Drew Wagner (3 hits, 2 RBI), Tanner Dissell (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Jacob Brothers (2 RBI), RD Lutze (2 RBI), Sam Tickel (2 hits, 3 RBI), Ethan Stoneberg (2 hits, RBI), Gerald Marrero (2 hits, RBI) and MJ Stavola (2B).

Harvest Christian 7, Luther North 2: The Lions made the most of 7 singles and took advantage of 4 Luther North errors to win this Northeastern Athletic Conference game. Jack Nohava and Doninik Olech had RBI hits for Harvest (13-10, 5-5). Zach Pawelek went 6 innings and allowed 2 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks for the win.

St. Rita 5, Marmion 1: The Cadets (8-12, 3-9) managed just 2 hits in this Chicago Catholic League loss. Jon Young took the loss on the mound.

Elgin Academy 14, Berean Baptist 0: Jordan Hare threw a 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk as the Hilltoppers (15-5) won in nonconference play. Ian Wilson (3 hits), Karl Rauschenberger (2 hits, 2B) and Eddie Joyce (2B, 2 RBI) led the EA offense.
