Softball: Conant still perfect in MSL West

Conant kept its record perfect in the Mid-Suburban West softball standings by taking a 6-3 victory over Hersey in Friday's crossover game in Arlington Heights.

Senior Sara Neuman (10-0) threw a 2-hitter with 15 strikeouts while Lauren Grzelak (2-for-3, RBI, 1 run), Jackie Burchfield (2-for-4, triple, 2 RBI), Makenna McCarthy (2-for-4, 2 runs) and Carly Rossdeutcher (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI, 1 run) paced the Cougars who improved to 13-2 and 7-0 in the MSL West.

The 2 hits for Hersey (7-9, 4-4) were a home run by Katie Wingerter and a single by Kim Labahn.

Palatine 15, Prospect 13: Sophomore Maddie Craver earned the win for the visiting Pirates (6-9, 4-3), improving her record to 4-1 while striking out eight. Craver also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, 4 runs and 3 RBI.

Kenzie Craver (4-for-4, double, 3 runs, 3 RBI) and Grace Huff (3-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBI) were other key hitters for Palatine which also received doubles from Emily Griffin and Jade DeMara.

Alyssa Cacini and Colleen Palczynski homered for the Knights (3-14, 1-7) while Maddie Borkowski doubled.

Schaumburg 11, Buffalo Grove 0 (5 inn): Senior Paige Alt threw a 1-hitter and belted 2 homers for the visiting Saxons (12-5, 6-1). Other multiple hitters for the Schaumburg were Brittney Butt, Michelle Birkholz and Natalie Napier and Sarah Schwind.

BG (3-12, 1-7) received its only hit from junior Katie Fontanetta, who broke up the no-hitter in the fourth inning.

Rolling Meadows 10, Hoffman Estates 1: Freshman Sara Benner belted her eighth homer (2-run blast) and junior Amanda Elkins connected for her fourth of the season to help host Rolling Meadows (13-7, 4-4) win the MSL crossover.

Multiple hitters for Meadows were Elkins (2-for-4, Mallory King (2-for-4), Benner (2-for-3), Caroline Slowik (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI) and Megan King (2-for-3, RBI).

Lydia Schultz struck out six while improving to 11-6.

Mary Bean homered and doubled for the Hawks (1-7 in the MSL West).

Barrington 18, Wheeling 0 (5 innings): Sophomore Caroline Hoppe (5-1) threw a 2-hitter with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk for Barrington (18-4, 6-2).

Senior Jenna Fingerman went 5-for-5 with a double and 3 RBI while classmate Rachel Macdonald (3-for-5, 6 RBI) belted her sixth homer of the season.

Other top hitters for the Fillies were Kelly Katis (3-for-4, RBI), Abbey Jacobsen (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Rachel Krzysko (2-for-3, double, 3 runs) and Carly Kordich (2-for-5, 2 runs).

Nicole Ferraro and Karli Bara had the hits for Wheeling (0-10, 0-7). Wildcats pitcher Dakota Medrano struck out three.

Maine West 3, Glenbrook North 2: Junior pitcher Grace Feldkamp earned her fourth win for the Warriors (5-9, 3-3) in the CSL North game.

Pociejewski homered for West while teammates Gabriella Demma and Anne Lipinski also had hits.
