Softball: Mrzlak walk off grand slam lifts Jacobs to win

Jess Mrzlak hit a walk off grand slam home run to lift the Jacobs softball team to a 10-8 Fox Valley Conference crossover win over Grayslake North Thursday.

The Golden Eagles (4-8) scored 6 runs in the bottom of the seventh, which included a 2-run home run from Sarah Murray, who also had a double in the game.

Brittany Feldman was the winning pitcher, striking out 5 and walking none.

Huntley 1, Prairie Ridge 0: Riley Porretto drove in Jessica Shields (2 hits) in the first inning and Tiffany Giese allowed just 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk to lead Huntley (12-5) to a Fox Valley Conference crossover win.

Dundee-Crown 11, Woodstock 1: Hannah Gestrich had 3 hits and 2 RBI and Sydney Ruggles threw a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk as the Chargers (12-11) won this FVC crossover. Andrea Conway (2 hits, RBI), Claire Weeks (2 hits, 3 RBI), Ruggles (2 hits) and Jessica Sanders (2 hits, 2B) also contributed for D-C.

CL South 6, Grayslake Central 5: Taylor Kassel had 2 hits with a triple and Carly Chovanec a triple and 2 RBI as the Gators (8-8) won this FVC crossover. Christina Toniolo was the winning pitcher in relief.

Cary-Grove 3, CL Central 1: Brianne Prank had 2 hits and an RBI to lead the Trojans (6-11) to an FVC crossover victory. Rachel Stanley picked up the win for Cary-Grove.

West Aurora 14, Batavia 1: The Blackhawks (13-1, 7-0) pounded out 10 doubles in this Upstate Eight crossover win. Hannah Beatus (3 hits, 4 RBI), Sarah Hansen (RBI), Cara Jimenez (2 hits, RBI), Grace Hunger (2 hits, 2 RBI), Jessica Vargas (2 RBI), Jamie McCreedy, Kallie Rundle (2 RBI), Libby Zoppa (2 hits), Melissa Fidler and Alexis Faxon (2 hits) all had 2-baggers for West Aurora. Beatus was the winning pitcher, allowing 8 hits with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks.

St. Charles East 9, Geneva 2: Jordan Hall went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI and scattered 8 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in a complete-game effort in the circle to lead the Saints (19-3-1, 8-2) to a UEC River win. Delaney Devor added 2 hits with a home run and 2 RBI for SCE while Kellly Rinker and Maddie Candre (RB) each had 2 hits as well. Alissa Dierks and Molly Wrenn hit solo home runs for Geneva (13-6, 6-4), Rachel Fanella was 3-for-3 and Megan White had 2 hits. Dierks took the pitching loss for the Vikings.

ICCP 4, Aurora Christian 3: Grace Folino had a triple for Aurora Christian (2-11) in this nonconference loss. Tori Camarano allowed 2 earned runs and 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks in suffering the loss for the Eagles.
