Weather service says EF-1 tornado struck north of Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - The National Weather Service says an EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 100 mph carved a 7ˆ½-mile path north of Evansville.

The weather service said Thursday that the tornado struck Tuesday evening, damaging at least eight building with downed utility poles and lines and peeling up a metal roof. It said Thursday that the tornado and straight-line winds uprooted dozens of trees.

The tornado's maximum path width was 250 yards. It was on the ground about 10 minutes.

The weather service says a second tornado struck Greene County, about 70 miles southwest of Indianapolis. The EF-0 twister with peak winds of 85 mph was on the ground for about a minute and traveled about 175 yards, damaging a barn. It had a maximum width of 75 yards.
