Arlington Heights native wins Fulbright Scholarship

Arlington Heights native Jessie Bingaman recently earned a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship that will allow her to complete her studies in Taiwan.

Bingaman is a Spanish, Chinese and Asian Studies major at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She will teach English at a Taiwanese school for one year.

"I believe that through cultural and linguistic interaction we can create deep intercultural relationships and promote better understanding between our nations," Bingaman wrote in her Fulbright application. "On a personal level, the experience would allow me to grow as an educator, a language learner, and a member of a global community."

Bingaman has also studied abroad in Peru, China, Nicaragua and Guatemala. After her year in Taiwan, she plans to either go to graduate school or work for the U.S. State Department.

The Rolling Meadows High School graduate was an honorable mention for the Daily Herald's Academic Team in 2012.
