MCC students to host Human Trafficking Awareness events Monday
The McHenry County College Generation End It student organization will host two events Monday, May 2, to raise awareness of human trafficking and the suffering it causes. The events include a T-shirt and jewelry sale and a presentation by Chris Baker, founder of INK 180, a local tattoo business.
The T-shirt and jewelry sale will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the commons area to benefit Refuge for Women, an organization that provides safe homes for sexually-exploited women.
Chris Baker, owner of the INK 180 tattoo business, will present a talk from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Luecht Conference Center, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.
He will share powerful and inspiring stories from his clients, who are former gang members and sex trafficking victims. Baker makes it his mission to offer free tattoo removals and cover-ups to clients facing some of society's hardest challenges. Attendees to the INK 180 presentation can enter to win a free tattoo, valued at $250, at the talk.
As part of the evening presentation, Refuge for Women will provide an update on their new safe home that will open soon in McHenry County.
The events are free and open to the public. For information, contact Nancy Allen at nallen@mchenry.edu.
