Dog found tied to Illinois bridge recovering from gun shots

SIBLEY, Ill. (AP) - A dog that was shot and left tied to a bridge in eastern Illinois is improving.

Ford County Sheriff Mark Doran says a man walking his own dog near Sibley found the dog on April 20. The town is 40 miles north of Champaign.

Doran said the Labrador mix known as Bear was tied to a high spot on the bridge so he could just touch his paws to the ground. Bear's mouth was duct-taped closed. He had been shot with a shot gun and had a broken jaw. Doran says he is investigating.

Angie Cleary works at Gibson Veterinarian Clinic and initially helped treat Bear. Cleary says Bear's jaw is too badly broken for surgery and he needs a feeding tube. But she says Bear should otherwise recover.
