Girls track and field: Barrington, Prospect claim MSL divisional meet victories

Barrington won three of the four relays and had four individual champions on its way to a dominant victory in the Mid-Suburban West girls track meet hosted by the Fillies on Tuesday.

Barrington was tops in the 4 x 100 relay (50.54), the 4x200 relay (1:48.77) and the 4x400 relay (4:05.78).

Jocelyn Long edged Palatine's Sam Lechowicz to win the 3,200 run in 5:18.61. Other individual wins for the Fillies came in the 300 hurdles (Sara Kate Capel, 47.52), the high jump (Anna Cossio, 5 feet, 2 inches) and the triple jump (Kelsey McLaurin, 36-9).

All of that led to a team total of 205 points for Barrington and coach Jody Gitelis. Palatine (144.5) was second, and Fremd (119.5) placed third.

Corey Rinella was a double winner for Palatine, taking top honors in both the 100 hurdles (15.20) and the long jump (17-0.25). The Pirates also had the best effort in the 200 dash (Tiana Henderson, 26.41), the 400 dash (Kelly O'Brien, 1:01.88), the 3,200 run (Lechowicz, 11:52.22) and the pole vault (Jess Streepy, 9-6).

Fremd's winners were Bethany Ekowowa in the 100 (13.05) and Nora Finegan in the 800 (2:21.43).

Schaumburg won the 4x800 relay (9:30.88) and saw Maya Bowens prevail in the shot put (37-8).

Hoffman Estates had a winner in the discus, as Christina Wood threw 93-10 to edge Conant's Shelby Epich.

MSL East: Prospect's senior leaders took charge as the host Knights claimed an MSL East title under coach Pete Wintermute.

Senior Brenda Kendziera was a double individual winner, with triumphs in the 300 hurdles (50.32) and long jump (17-5.25).

Knights senior Maya Mason won the 100 hurdles (16.11), and senior Jess Skludarek won the high jump (5-3).

Prospect won both the 4x100 (49.82) and 4x200 (1:47.64) relays, and got additional wins from junior Brooke Wilson (1,600 run, 5:20.28), freshman Samantha Berman (200 dash, 28.11) and junior Autumn Stone (pole vault, 9-9).

Prospect amassed 227 points, ahead of runner-up Wheeling (170.5) and third-place finisher Hersey (134.5).

Wheeling winners were Michaela Vasey in the shot put (39-3), Timber Terrell in the triple jump (35-7), Gloria Wide in discus (118-9) and Alexis Knight in the 400 dash (59.83). The Wildcats also won the 4x400 relay (4:13.68).

Hersey had champions in the 800 (Alanna Ratusz, 2:28.03), the 3,200 (Hailey Bowes, 11:30.70) and in the 4x800 relay (10:06.49).

Buffalo Grove had a winner in Nya Carr, in the 100 dash (13.06).
