Baseball: Barrington alone in MSL West lead

Colin Starvel finished 3-for-4 and Jimmy Day ended up driving in 3 runs as Barrington's baseball team topped Palatine 6-0 on Tuesday.

That decision, combined with a loss for Fremd, leaves the Broncos alone atop the Mid-Suburban West standings.

Ryan Loutos limited Palatine to 3 hits in his 4⅓ innings in the continuation of Monday's game. Brooks Gosswein, who started Monday and tossed 2⅔ hitless innings, earned the win.

Loutos struck out nine of the 17 batters he faced.

Palatine slipped to 10-9 overall and 5-2 in the MSL West, while Barrington improved to 14-6 and 6-1.

Buffalo Grove 8, Rolling Meadows 3: Chase Marsh homered and drove in 3 runs, and leadoff man Joey Pinakidis finished 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI for an MSL East road win.

Starter Justin Meyer allowed 1 run over 4 innings and earned the victory for Buffalo Grove (9-8, 5-2), and John Carpinelli pitched the last 3 innings to get a save.

Marco Perez had a pair of hits for Rolling Meadows (0-15, 0-7), while Ryan Laboda drew 3 walks and Jack Lincoln had a double.

Conant 12, Fremd 5: The Cougars (9-10, 3-4) completed the victory they started Monday, finished with 13 hits against the host Vikings (9-4, 5-2).

Hoffman Estates 8, Schaumburg 7: The host Hawks saw their first four hitters produce hits - and the last of them was a grand slam by Lucas Barnes.

Schaumburg eventually regained the lead at 7-5 in the fourth inning before Hoffman Estates (7-8, 2-5) tied it in the sixth.

The Hawks won it with a two-out rally in the seventh. Ryan Davalos produced a two-out single, and Kevin Howell walked. That set the stage for Brian Mester, who singled home pinch runner Nate Magers.

Marc Gonzalez pitched 3⅔ innings and got the win.

Schaumburg slipped to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in the West.

Wheeling 10, Northridge Prep 6: Trailing 5-4 headed into the bottom of the sixth inning, Wheeling bounced back in a big way. The Wildcats (8-11) plated 6 runs and went on to claim a nonconference win.

Brian Maloney finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and Mike Wiase went 3-for-3. Drew Roberts had an RBI single in the sixth, and Christian Hubbard contributed a double.

Christian Liberty 6, Rockford Christian Life 5: Aiden Miller doubled twice and also earned the pitching decision as the Chargers picked up a Northeastern Athletic Conference victory.

Peter Grob contributed a triple as Christian Liberty produced 11 hits.

Highland Park 13, Maine West 5: The visiting Warriors actually out-hit the Giants 10-7 but couldn't overcome the 6 errors they committed in a Central Suburban crossover.

Five players had 2 hits apiece for Maine West (7-10) - Eric Outlaw, Alex Zimmerman, Joe Swanson, Dan Johnston and Nick Stone.
