Lake County sheriff's deputy receives Rising Shield Award

Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Vincent Sciarrone was presented the Rising Shield Award at the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Training Conference and Installation Dinner Friday, April 22.

Sciarrone was selected from a statewide pool of nominees as a Rising Shield recipient for his efforts to keep Lake County roadways safe through diligent DUI enforcement.

He joined the sheriff's office in 2012 after six years of service with the Round Lake Beach Police Department. Sciarrone is certified as a drug recognition expert, evidence technician and a breath analysis operator. He also earned DUI achievement awards in 2014 and 2015.

"We are proud of Deputy Sciarrone's efforts to reduce traffic accidents by taking drunken drivers off the roads," Sheriff Mark Curran said. "His actions protect the public and the drunken driver as well."

Undersheriff Raymond Rose said every death or injury caused by drunken or drugged driving is preventable.

"Congratulations to Deputy Sciarrone for his achievement and the potential lives that were saved by his actions," Rose said
