Shodeen Hospitality opens outdoor wedding venue in Geneva

Couples planning an outdoor wedding have a new option in Geneva, right along the Fox River.

Shodeen Hospitality is finishing up the final touches of this week at the Herrington Plaza, a new outdoor venue at The Herrington Inn and Spa.

"Because Herrington Plaza is so new, couples who are planning a warm weather wedding can still choose a 2016 date in an outdoor setting," said Paul Ruby, president of Shodeen Hospitality, a division of Shodeen Group, the company that owns Herrington Inn and Spa.

Herrington Plaza is located on the Fox River between the Herrington Inn and Spa and its banquet facility. The property was purchased from the City of Geneva, and the site has been improved to showcase dramatic river views for a unique outdoor venue, said Cyndi Rohlf, director of sales for the Herrington. "It's just an awesome space for weddings and corporate events," she said.

"Herrington Plaza is unlike any other event facility in the Fox River Valley, with its combination of a spectacular outdoor riverfront setting and its expansive capacity to accommodate a 60 by 30-foot tent and serve up to 200 guests," Ruby said. "In addition, the adjoining Herrington Inn offers rooms with scenic riverfront views for out-of-town guests."

Designed by Chris Niedert of LDC Inc., the plaza has been enhanced by landscape enhancements to include trees along Route 38, formal gardens, grass areas and walkways with river views.

The family owned and operated Shodeen Group, established in 1961 by Kent Shodeen, has constructed more than 700,000 square feet of commercial and office space, planned, zoned and built over 800 apartment units and 7,000 single-family residences in the Fox River Valley towns including Batavia, St. Charles, Aurora and Elburn.
