Cougars drop another to River Bandits

Despite 13 strikeouts from the pitching staff of the Kane County Cougars (10-7), the Quad Cities River Bandits (7-11) came away with a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

In Cody Reed's (0-1) Cougar debut, the left-hander struck out the side in each of the first three innings. Reed went on to collect 11 strikeouts out of his first 12 outs. The River Bandits offense knocked Reed out of the game in the sixth when they scored a pair of runs on an RBI sacrifice bunt from Daz Cameron and a Cougar error.

Jason Morozowski cut the Quad Cities lead in half when he launched a solo homer off Ryan Deemes in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Cougars were unable to score again as Andrew Thome (2) earned the save after stranding two runners in scoring position in the eighth and tossing a perfect ninth.

Alex Winkelman (2-1) picked up the win with five shutout innings and striking out three batters. Deemes collected his second save of the year.

The Cougars enjoy an off day on Monday before resuming the season on Tuesday against the Dayton Dragons. It will be the Cougars' first trip to Fifth Third Field since 2014 and begin an eastern division road trip.
