Heroes respond to a call at McHenry County Human Race

Several hundred superheroes responded to a call for help Sunday morning at the McHenry County Human Race's "Get Your Hero On" at McHenry County College.

Runners and walkers in the 5K choose one of 67 charity organizations their registration fee would benefit. Many competitors arrived at the college's Crystal Lake campus dressed as superheroes complete with masks and capes.

"I'm here to support the Human Race and the Volunteer Center (of McHenry County)," said Steve Otten, director of United Way of McHenry County, who came dressed as Superman. "Kids like it. I think half of them think it's real."
