Winthrop Harbor School Rallies With Blood Drive For Mother of Two Battling Brain Cancer May 7

Teachers and staff at Westfield school in far north suburban Winthrop Harbor are rallying to support the mother of two young students who is in the fight of her life.

Westfield has partnered with LifeSource to host a blood drive in honor of

Angelica Oglesby on Saturday, May 7, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Angelica was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Westfield School is located at 500 North Avenue, just west of Sheridan Road.

Nearby Culver's of Zion has pledged it support and will provide a pint of frozen custard to all donors as part of its 'Give a Pint, Get a Pint' partnership with LifeSource.

School officials will host have several raffles throughout the day, with proceeds going to the Ogelsby family to help assist with medical bills.

"The entire community stands together with Angie and her family and we are ready to do whatever it takes to support her through this most difficult time," said Westfield 4th grade teacher Belinda Shogren. "No one ever knows when they'll need the life-saving gift of blood that can comes from area donors. It's an easy and selfless way to give someone a second chance of life."

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 years old with parental consent). In preparation for their donation, donors are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with proper identification. LifeSource hosts' blood drives daily and also operates community donor centers across the greater Chicago area.
