College of DuPage Forensics Team Earn Medals in 2016 National Tournament

Five members of the College of DuPage Forensics Team earned medals at the 2016 Phi Tho Pi National Tournament held April 5 to 9 in Costa Mesa, Calif. COD was one of 64 community colleges from across the country to compete.

Team members earning awards include: Farris Ahmad (Naperville), gold medal in Impromptu Speaking and bronze medal in Extemporaneous Speaking; Tia Collins (Hanover Park), gold medal in impromptu speaking, bronze medal in International Public Debate; Michael Neal (Glen Ellyn), bronze medal in International Public Debate, bronze medal in Extemporaneous Speaking; Sabrina Thomas (Downers Grove), bronze medal in Extemporaneous Speaking; Mahera Suhail (Woodridge), silver medal in Program Oral Interpretation, bronze medal in Speed to Entertain and Region IV Student Fellowship Award.

Also representing College of DuPage in the competition were: Lindsay Cooper (Naperville); Oliver Dobon (Wood Dale); Nicholas Honeysett (Lisle); Brigette Mora (Woodridge); Kelsey Neumann (Glen Ellyn), Rocky Roque (Bensenville); Stephany Ruiz-Gonzalez (Woodridge); and Emma Swanson (Bensenville). Team coaches include Lauren Morgan, Melissa Gomez, Kelsey Figiel and Jude Geiger. Additionally, students were coached by Speech program faculty member Mia Poston and alum Matthew Beifuss.
