Huntley Knight recognized for honor guard service
Sir Knight Don Oomens was presented a certificate of recognition for his valuable contribution to the Knights of Columbus Bishop Arthur J. O'Neill Fourth Degree Assembly #2381 Color Corps by Faithful Navigator Bill Wenzloff.
During the past year, Sir Knight Don Oomens has been present at all of the Honor Guards provided for Bishop David Malloy of the Rockford Diocese at parishes that are in the area of Illinois covered by the Bishop Arthur J. O'Neill Fourth Degree Assembly. He was recently recognized for his dedication and effort.
In addition, Don is present at almost of the honor guards at the wakes and/or funerals of deceased Knights whose families have requested an honor guard as well as the many civic events in local areas served by the assembly. Additionally, he provides leadership and guidance to others participating in these honor guards as Don and his brother Knights donate their time to the communities served.
Bishop J. O'Neill Assembly 2381 began with the Elgin Council, chartered in 1902. Other councils were added as chartered: Carpentersville chartered in 1962, Dundee chartered in 1984, Algonquin chartered in 1992, Huntley chartered in 1997 and Hampshire chartered in 2002. The 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus is the Patriotic Degree.
The members of the assembly provides an honor guard for the Bishop of the Rockford, Illinois, diocese in at masses and other events and add dignity and respect to various ceremonies and events with our color corps, honor guard and color guard in communities where our councils are located.
The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with nearly 1.9 million members in over 15,100 local councils. Last year, Knights donated 71.5 million volunteer hours and $176.9 million in charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their church, councils, communities, families and youth.
