Softball: One-sided win for Carmel

Carmel 12, Cary-Grove 1: Jordan Swiatkowski was 3-for-4 with 2 home runs, a double and 4 RBI, as the Corsairs cruised in nonconference action.
Claire Petrus went 3-for-4 as well, doubling twice and knocking in a pair of runs. Emma Bartz (2-for-4) also homered for Carmel (12-5).
Petrus earned the win, allowing 2 hits and 1 run (earned) in 4 innings with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. Sydney Schuda pitched a 1-2-3 fifth.
Grant 13, Stevenson 5: On Thursday, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the North Suburban crossover. Stevenson tied the score at 5-5 in the sixth, before Grant plated 8 runs in the bottom of the inning.
Sydney Goessele went the distance in the circle for the Bulldogs, giving up only 2 earned runs. Grant (8-8) had 15 hits lead by Calista Warmowski (3-for-4, 2 doubles), Becca Wold (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI), Erin Bengston (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Megan Chapman (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and Goessele (2-for-4). Kenzi Sancken added a double.
For Stevenson, Vera Pflugradt hit a solo homer and went 2-for-3. Myra Peterson doubled and Trisha Porzycki tripled.
Richmond-Burton 8, Grayslake North 4: Grayslake North out-hit Richmond-Burton 10-7 but could not pick up the win.
Freshman Grace Brown hit her third home run of the season for Grayslake North and Lauren Olsen hit her first.
Brown finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and Katie Moats finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Pitcher Jessica Vaughn and Jenna Pozezinski each finished with 2 hits for the Knights.
Zion-Benton 15, Lake Zurich 1: Sarah Schnecker had 2 of Lake Zurich's 3 hits.
Alden-Hebron 11, Round Lake 4: Round Lake was out-hit 10-5 and had 5 errors.
Leighlani Yazzie had a double for the Panthers.
