Softball: Benner homers twice for Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows freshman Sara Benner extended her home run hitting streak to four games on Thursday as the Mustangs's softball team posted a 16-5 victory at Prospect in five innings.

Benner actually blasted two in one inning with a solo shot and 3-run blast in the Mustangs' 8-run second inning.

The first baseman now has 6 homers for the season.

Meadows raised its record to 10-5 and 3-3 in the Mid-Suburban East while Prospect stands 2-9 and 0-5.

"We are just playing good team softball," said Mustangs coach Tony Wolanski. "The pitching is good and we are playing good defense. That make things much easier."

Benner finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI.

Amanda Elkins (2-for-4) also had a 2-run homer in the 8-run inning.

Caroline Slowik (2-for-4, walk), Megan King, Lydia Schultz (2-for-3), Meghan Slowik (2-for-3, triple, double, 5 RBI) and Mallory King (2-for-4) also had hits in the big inning.

Sophomore Alex Kanter (3-for-4, triple, 3 RBI) belted a homer for Prospect while other multiple hitters for the Knights were classmates Jackie Orel (2-for-3, double) and Lauren Caldrone (2-for-4, 2 RBI).

Schultz (8-4) earned the win over Madeline Borkowski (1-1).

Maine West 3, Maine East 2 (8 inn.): Junior Grace Feldkamp made her season pitching debut and earned the win for the Warriors (2-7, 1-3) in the CSL North contest.

Feldkamp, who won 10 games last spring, had not pitched since she underwent shoulder surgery after last season.

Feldkamp, Nicole Byerly and Gabriella Demma each had 2 hits for West while Jordan Hart had one.
